Supporting Educators

Advancing educator practice requires differentiated, sustained professional support that fosters growth across all stages of an educator’s career. In New York State, this includes systems and structures, such as the teacher performance assessment (TPA) as a culminating demonstration of classroom readiness during preparation, the development of district Professional Learning Plans, and the educator evaluation process under Education Law §3012-e (STEPS Plan), that are designed to provide meaningful feedback, inform professional learning, and advance high-quality instruction. Through standards-aligned development, targeted learning experiences grounded in high-leverage practices, and collaborative cultures that invite inquiry and reflection, the Department supports educators in strengthening instructional effectiveness and positively impacting student learning.
