Program Office/Description: 

The Office of Cultural Education at the Viva88Museum leads programs, exhibits, and outreach that preserve and share New York’s natural and cultural heritage while engaging the public in learning and civic participation.

The Assignment (Description of Job): 

Interns will support the Education team by assisting with the development and facilitation of science-focused programming and exhibits. Responsibilities include creating educational materials, engaging visitors in hands-on learning experiences, and contributing to science communication initiatives.Ìý

Professional Development Plan : 

Professional development will focus on building skills in program design, public engagement, and museum education. It includes opportunities to deepen knowledge of collections, science, and cultural topics while learning best practices for creating engaging exhibits and educational programs. Candidates will develop communication and leadership skills through facilitating programs, coordinating volunteers, and managing projects. Training in digital tools, multimedia, and virtual programming will enhance their ability to reach diverse audiences. Finally, participation in networking, mentorship, and DEI-focused workshops will support ongoing growth and inclusive practice in museum education.

Desired Skills, Abilities, & Educational Background: 

The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in science or museum studies, excellent communication and teaching skills, and the ability to engage diverse audiences through educational programming and exhibits.

Schedule/Hours: 

Interns will work no more than 20 hours each week; schedules will be made directly with the supervisor.

Paid Internship Hourly Rates: 

This is an unpaid position; we are happy to work with candidates so they can earn academic credit for their internship.
