The Office of Communications is the voice of the State Education Department. We craft and share compelling stories about our programs, policies, and initiatives to keep New Yorkers informed and engaged. From breaking news to inspiring success stories, we connect with the public, media, and key stakeholders through a variety of platforms—our website, social media channels, videos, press releases, email campaigns, and newsletters. Our mission is to deliver clear, timely, and impactful communication that builds trust and drives understanding.
The Office of Communications is seeking creative and motivated interns with strong storytelling skills and a passion for digital media. Interns will help produce videos and other digital content for social media and online campaigns, gaining hands-on experience in multimedia production and audience engagement.
Responsibilities may include:

Shooting and editing videos and podcasts

Interviewing students and adults on camera

Creating compelling social media content
This internship offers an excellent opportunity to build a professional portfolio and develop skills in digital storytelling, content creation, and strategic communications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Knowledge of social media platforms and trends

Interns will not work more than 20 hours each week; direct schedules will be made with the supervisor.
Interns will earn $16/hour.
To be eligible for the SUNY/SED Program, candidates must be currently matriculated in a degree program at one of our Participating SUNY Institutions. Additionally, candidates must be enrolled in classes during the semester in which they would like to intern. Summer and Winter interns must provide proof of enrollment in classes for the following semester. Viva88residency is NOT required. Furthermore, students must meet all of the requirements for being hired as a Student Assistant by their Institution.
